The project has been led by the Duke's Meadows Trust, which raised the £450,000 needed for the revamp. The trust also received funding from the Big Lottery Fund, the London Marathon Trust and Veolia Environmental Trust. “It will be a fantastic facility with exciting equipment. Both children and disabled young people from the Croft Centre shared their ideas of a perfect playground with us. “We hope that the place will meet their aspirations through being fun and adventurous yet accessible.” The playground has been designed to meet the needs of older children and is intended to encourage children of all abilities to mix. The general trend has been for paddling pools to close, so it’s great we can move in the opposite direction and create something the community really wants. Now the play area is up and running, it will act as a model that other areas can look to and recreate, so hopefully, more people can enjoy a low cost, family friendly day out. We are all very proud of what our community has achieved and very grateful to all the people who have helped us. It will be a great resource for local families. The path will run from Barnes Bridge to Chiswick Bridge offering walkers and joggers a safe alternative to the busy road as well as views over a very beautiful stretch of the Thames. The project was a joint initiative between CiP, The Friends of Dukes Meadows and Hounslow Council and highlight the way in which a voluntary group, Local Authority and CiP, the Councils cultural and community regeneration agency, can achieve improvements together that none could achieve alone. So its a big thank you to all concerned. Especially Deanne Jones of Thames21 who secured the funding for the project.
